I want this site to work for everyone who comes to it, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control or a magnifier. The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
What has been built in
- Headings in a real order, so a screen reader can move through a page by structure.
- A "skip to content" link, and navigation that can be reached and operated with a keyboard.
- Visible focus outlines, so you can see where you are when tabbing.
- Text alternatives on images, written to say what the image shows rather than to repeat the caption.
- Form fields with real labels, help text tied to the field, and status messages announced when a form is submitted.
- Color contrast checked against the AA thresholds, and no information carried by color alone.
- Motion reduced automatically if your device asks for that, and nothing on the site plays audio or video by itself.
- A page language set in the markup, and layouts that reflow to a phone without a horizontal scroll.
Where it falls short
An honest statement is more useful than a perfect one. I have not had this site tested by an independent accessibility auditor, and I have not tested it with every combination of browser and assistive technology. Any document I link to from somewhere else is outside my control.
If something does not work
Tell me and I will fix it. Describe the page and what happened, and if it is easier, just tell me what you were trying to do and I will get you the information another way in the meantime.
